Universal Orlando Builds Its Own ‘Cabin in the Woods’

Cabinboard_spanWe’ve all seen Drew Goddard’s insanely original and genre-transforming The Cabin in the Woods, right!? (If not, what are you waiting for? Quit your job and stream it NOW!) How would you like to walk through a real-life Cabin and meet the Hell Lord, the redneck torture family, the Merman, and more, live in the flesh?

Universal Orlando is now developing a new Cabin maze for this year’s Halloween Horror Nights 23. The park has teamed with director Goddard to recreate the woods, the cabin, and even the cube cells full of monsters and baddies. According to Universal Orlando’s Michael Aiello: “You’re going to be in the control room when merman attacks.” How cool is that!?

In addition, Lionsgate and Goddard have given the Universal team whatever they’ve asked for to make the maze as real as possible, from set layouts to scripts.

“We’re trying to adapt this film as best as we physically can in the context of what we mermhave. The whole idea of the maze is to have varying creatures in it,” Aiello tells Zap2it. “In the maze, we’ve got many that were in the forefront of a lot of the scenes — the ballerina, the Sugarplum Fairy, the Hell Lord — but also too there are a couple rooms where we’re kind of featuring some of the creatures that were just on the screens in the control room of movie. And then in the finale we’ve got a couple characters that could open up from Halloweens past, our own events, because we were granted amazing permission to be able to include some of our lineage into ‘Cabin’s’ lineage.”

Goddard, Aiello and the rest of the Universal team are currently writing the script for the attraction’s story and haven’t confirmed or denied whether or not any of the film’s cast members will be involved in the project.

Halloween Horror Nights 23 runs from Sept. 20 to Nov. 2. You can check out ticket prices and other information here.

It’s time to go to Orlando, kids. Just watch out for that unicorn.
