Music Monday: Camera Obscura’s ‘Desire Lines’

camLast month, Scottish indie pop band Camera Obscura released their fifth full-length entitled Desire Lines. Though not diverging much from the sounds of their former releases, the album arrived at an opportune time to greet those seeking some super chill summer tunes, perfect for post-beach burns or late-night kumbayas.

This five-piece sounds somewhat like She & Him meets Neko Case meets the Beach Boys, full of lush pop and orchestral melodies. They even add a helping of retro soul to their songs here and there.  Although it may be total mood music (you can go crazy at times waiting for a little energy boost), Camera Obscura sort of carries you away when you least expect it. And speaking of Case, she lends some supporting vocals on the record, as does My Morning Jacket’s Jim James – bonus!

Here are a couple tunes. And then, you know…Spotify has the rest.
