Trailer Park: Netflix Nabs Tina Fey’s ‘Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt’

kimmy schmidtBased on the photo above, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt looks like it’s adapted from a Katherine Heigel movie or something. But TINA FEY, guys. Stay with me, here.

Ellie Kemper stars as a woman who was rescued from an underground apocalypse cult and is adjusting to life after 15 years spent in a bunker. (Right there…sold!) The trailer shows that she’s starting over in a roomy New York City apartment closet, with a nannying gig for Fey’s 30 Rock pal Jane Krakowski – bonus!

Despite its bright and cheery disposition, I’m pulling for Kimmy. It’s great to see Tina back in the fold creating TV stuffs (along with Robert Carlock), and honestly, I’m glad the show shifted from NBC over to Netflix. Hopefully that gives it a little more wiggle room to get its quirk on. Sure, it looks bright and sunny (maybe a little too much so), but we all know how Mean Girls turned out – wearing pink on Wednesdays, “cool moms,” yada, yada, yada…so I think Kimmy stands a chance. Hopefully Fey can keep Kimmy witty and delightfully dumb at the same time without all those Starting Over cliches muckin’ up the joint.

But dammit, that Ellie Kemper really is adorable.

Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt debuts March 6 on Netflix with 13 episodes. The series has already been renewed for a second season. Take a peek:

Best line: “You’ll need to be here by 6 every morning to get Buckley up for school, then get me up at 10, but don’t wake me up.”

Krakowski, OUT.
