Tommy Wiseau’s Joker Audition Tape is Truly Terrifying

We’ve had some pretty insane Jokers throughout the years that have shaken up comic culture and even entered Oscars zeitgeist in one case. Heath Ledger, Jack Nicholson, some guy from some band I don’t listen to. But let’s be serious—Ledger’s performance was the one that upped the game the most.

Until now.

While Joaquin Phoenix may be the next actor attached to the Joker prequel movie (currently in the works from Todd Phillips), another player has entered the Joker game delivering a spine-chilling performance that will shake you to your core. Tommy Wiseau, director of The Room, has thrown his hat into the ring and really, you just need to watch this video.

In the new clip created alongside Nerdist, Wiseau dresses up in an outfit kin to Ledger’s version of the Batman villain. He then proceeds to run some of the most famous lines from Ledger’s performance (“What doesn’t kill you makes you stranger,” “Why so serious?”), and segues into Nicholson’s iconic bit: “Have you ever danced with the devil in the pale moonlight?” Greg “Sestosterone” Sestero even shows up to play the Batman to Tommy’s Joker.

Phoenix is going to do a bang-up job with The Joker, I’m sure, but I’d sell my house and move into a cardboard box down by the river to see Tommy’s take in a full-length feature. Not every Joker performance has to be an Oscar-winning triumph. Wiseau serious?
