In the spirit of Music Monday – and because I live in a world where it’s OK to love Bad Brains and Lady Gaga equally – here is the new Gaga single, “Applause.” Thanks to hackers and low-quality leaks, Mother Monster decided to drop the track on us a full week before its intended release:

The track is nowhere near a “Bad Romance”-level of epic, but it’s definitely a welcome return of the bravura Gaga is known for. Her standout statement: “Pop culture was in art, now art’s in pop culture, in me.” I don’t think any of Gaga’s fans would argue that.
“Applause” is the lead single for November’s ARTPOP. Maybe we’ll be hearing more of the album sooner than we think.
