Glowbug’s ‘Death of the Party’ Marries 80’s Synth-Pop with Horror, The Result is Gory and Glorious

GlowbugElectronic music has just taken a dose of Molly, fused with screamo, and made a horror-movie video to be the face of all the madness. The results are equal parts terrifying and rousing.

Glowbug, a dance/electronic act from LA, headed by Daniel Anderson (The Ghost and the Grace, Idiot Pilot), has created “Death of the Party” – an 80’s throwback jam that sounds like it could be a part of any John Hughes soundtrack or horror film from that strange, awkward decade of glory. Just listen to the opening beats and imagine your favorite 80’s movie! So spot on.

The chorus erupts into a fit of screams, giving the track modern flair, but wait. Just wait. BECAUSE THE VIDEO.

The first time I saw the video, I was caught so off-guard, but that’s what makes it so damn special. It opens with some 80’s-tastic fonts and segues immediately into super cheesy partying scenes. There’s a bunch of silly white people doing super silly white people things, until they decide to put in a video (AN ACTUAL VHS, YOU GUYS!) and that’s when the madness starts, like something right out of a Torture Porn film.

The group sits around and…well, I’ll let it be a surprise. Check out the video below, but if you’re squeamish and not Horror-prone, you may want to skip out. There will be blood.

“Death of the Party” can be found on the album “Headhunters” which can be purchased at Anderson’s BandCamp page. Hit him up on Twitter, too, @GlowbugSounds.
