Fitz and the Tantrums’ ‘Money Grabber’ is Infecting My Mind

Fitz and the Tantrums’ “MoneyGrabber” is like a warm beam of sunshine on a cloudy day.

The six-piece band has deemed themselves Indie Soul Pop and touts the fact that their entire sound is completely guitar-less. Singer Michael ‘Fitz’ Fitzpatrick has been quoted saying, “I did want to try and make a big sounding record without guitars,” he said. “For me, I just feel like in any music that has a band, the guitar is always there, it’s always featured, it’s always prevalent. I’m just sick of hearing it.”

Though they claim to not have attempted to replicate the Motown era….damn, they sure come close. Or maybe they’re too cool-for-school to admit it. Either way: “MoneyGrabber” is amazing, and their album, Pickin’ Up the Pieces, backs it up.

And here’s the band’s performance of “Don’t Gotta Work it Out” from Hoppus on Music on Fuse.
