With SXSW right around the corner, a sneak peek of Outkast’s Andre 3000 playing Jimi Hendrix has finally surfaced.  Written and directed by John Ridley, (who won the Oscar for Best Adapted Screenplay for 12 Years a Slave), buzz surrounding All is by My Side has been floating about the Web since 2012. After struggling to get music rights (the Hendrix estate turned them down), the movie is finally set to premiere at Austin’s famed festival and will open in the UK this summer.

The film’s synopsis reads: “Jimmy James, an unknown backup guitarist, left New York City for London, England in 1966. A year later he returned – as Jimi Hendrix.”

In the following clip, Hendrix is talking about the Monterey Pop Festival to model Linda Keith (the subject of the Rolling Stones’ “Ruby Tuesday,” played by Imogen Poots) and flirting up a storm.

Do you think Andre has what it takes to pull this off for an entire film? Will this movie make a splash at next year’s Academy Awards? Only time will tell…but I want to see this one.
