David Gilmour swung by Jimmy Kimmel Live earlier this week to perform his new single (“Rattle That Lock”) and an old favorite (“Wish You Were Here”) proving that any music worth anything is truly timeless.

The Pink Floyd masterpiece is over 40 years old yet still radiates an ageless, all-compassing twister of emotion and artistry. Gilmour has likely performed this track thousands of times throughout his career and we, as the audience, still experience all the feels. All of ’em. Every last one. This song really speaks to me – it’s as if it connects the entire world’s collective loneliness into 5 and a half minutes, reminding anyone listening that they’re not alone. That everyone around them is also swimming up stream, trying to find that someone–or something–to make sense of all the madness that is life. (I don’t know what drugs Floyd were on back in the day, but I think someone slipped it into my coffee.)

It makes me sad that Pink Floyd will never properly reunite…that Gilmour and Roger Waters won’t ever mend the pain of the past to continue one of the best bands that ever existed. The dreamer in me will keep praying for it, but the doubter in me knows better. Til then, we can at least sleep easy knowing that both Gilmour and Waters will still occasionally hit the circuit and revive these old classics–some of the best songs ever written–from the dead…even if they go it alone.

I love this performance so hard. Deep in my bones, kids.
