Blood Orange, né Dev Hynes, has released his first single from the upcoming Negro Swan. Directed by Crack Stevens, “Charcoal Baby” features a split-screen video of Hynes jamming out at two different shindigs. Watch the clip below.

Co-written by Aaron Maine of Porches, “Charcoal” delivers a guitar-centric R&B cut with dreamy vocals splashed over an undulating chorus of beats and synths. The song closes with the saxophone-equivalent version of a mic drop. The title for Negro Swan comes from the single’s lyric: “No one wants to be the negro swan.”

“My newest album is an exploration into my own and many types of black depression, an honest look at the corners of black existence, and the ongoing anxieties of queer/people of color,” said Hynes.

Negro Swan drops Aug. 24 via Domino.
